Saturday 9
The Lazy Days of Summer
I was looking round some of the blogs where I often loiter, and when I was at One Gal’s Musings I saw that she had taken part in a meme that is new to me. The Saturday 9, which was invented, it seems, by Crazy Sam at Saturday 9. Now, I know this is Sunday, but I thought I’d have a go anyway.
1. What is your favorite summer drink? Tea. My favourite drink for any time, any season.
2. What is the best summer sport to play? Swimming
3. What’s the best summer sport to watch? I don’t play or watch any sports so I’ll pass on this one.
4. Do you like the ocean, the pool or the lake? The ocean. I like beaches, and I prefer to swim in water that moves and doesn’t smell of chlorine
5. Some folks drink whiskey in the winter and gin, tequila (margaritas) or rum drinks in the summer. Does you alcohol of choice change? No. Red wine year round.
6. What is your favorite summer song? “In The Summertime” by Mungo Jerry. Or “The Happening” by The Supremes.
7. What was your best summer growing up? How old were you and why was it best? When I was 19. My first summer in British Columbia, with a bunch of wonderful people.
8. Have you ever had a summer romance that you knew would end? Yes, several, mainly in my early twenties. Sometimes two or three in the same summer. Knowing they would end was even an advantage sometimes, because you knew they wouldn’t drag into everyday life and the limited time was a reason to be more abandoned than usual.
9. How old were you when you first went skinny-dipping? Who were you with? 19. With some of the aforementioned people that wonderful summer. One warm moonlit evening we all decided to swim naked in the Bulkley River. This was the end of July and the weather was very, very hot. We didn’t realise that the Bulkley source was high up in the mountains and even at that time of year it was mainly snow-melt, and therefore freezing cold. We all waded into the water, unclad and laughing, and a few moments later we all came struggling out again, teeth chattering and the men among us looking as though we had been castrated. Still, after rigorous application of towels and getting dressed again, we sat round a campfire and all felt much better. It was a wonderful evening. Like I said, the best summer of my life.
If anyone wants to have a go, even if it’s not Saturday, please feel free. Please just link back to me and to Crazy Sam.

You squeezed a lot of living into that BC summer, didn't you? Something tells me that there are still summer stories to tell ... Welcome to the Saturday 9.

That sounds like a perfectly awesome summer even if the skinny dipping was in icy water! And I know you have more great summer stories in you. ;) BTW, I have a little something for you over on my blog. Happy Sunday!

I like that list. I think I'll do it this Saturday, though I'm not answering number 9. ;)
